Well, behind every good product is a handful of committed individuals who make sure that the big picture and the important details fit together nicely. Maldives Liveaboards Online proudly presents: the fantastic members of our fantastic team. Gundi, the heart and soul of Maldives Liveaboards Online
Gundi founded Maldives Liveaboards Online. She has been in the diving safari business since 1988, when she and her husband Nino decided to build a safari ship. They had both fallen in love with diving in the Maldives and wanted to make their passion their profession; a career move they never regretted. Gundi, being a blond European woman with determined managerial and magical PR skills, stood out in the Maldivian safari business. She soon made a name for herself as a top independent booking agent. Eventually, she decided that she wasn´t a one-ship-woman and had the idea of hand-picking the best boats with the best crews, then using her know-how to turn them into floating luxury hotels and promoting them on an exclusive basis. By bringing together European and Maldivian know-how, Gundi has succeeded in putting together a top notch mini-fleet of comfortable, service-oriented and well-organised liveaboards. She visits the boats regularly and continues to love and improve the Maldivian liveaboard experience. Nobody quite knows, but Gundi estimates that she has around 2000 dives. Our Local Partners Kuday
Kuday has been involved in diving tourism in the Maldives from the beginning: he started diving in the wild days when the Maldives were just being discovered as a holiday destination. He has worked on resort islands for a while, but eventually found out that he missed the sense of liberty and adventure you get on a safari boat too much. Leni Riefenstahl, the controversial German filmmaker, was one of Kuday´s most memorable pupils and, if you ask nicely, he´ll tell you some anecdotes. Kuday has a reputation as a whale shark tracker: somehow - we wish we knew how - he manages to find one on practically every cruise. Surfing is another area in which Kuday has built a reputation. He started on a self-made board and he is dedicated to promoting surfing in the Maldives by hosting the O´Neill surfing competition on MS Stingray. Kuday is one of the best cruise directors around and we are delighted to work with him. Kuday on the future of diving in the Maldives: “Even though more tourists are coming to the Maldives every year, it will not become crowded because there are still so many areas that have not been discovered yet. There is still so much to explore. That is why I love working on liveaboards: there is always a chance of coming across new sites that nobody else knows.” Hussen
There aren´t too many people around who have the experience, skills and personality to make a safari boat really work, so we are happy we were able to recruit Hussen before the competition could get their hands on him! Hussen has been a diving instructor for almost ten years and he is known for his understanding of aquatic life and the movement of the notoriously unpredictable currents in the Maldives. Water seems to be his second home: when he is not diving Hussen likes to do surfing and windsurfing. For Hussen it is a privilege to be able to explore the Maldivian reefs and he is always keen to check out new dive sites and travel to remote atolls, which is why he prefers working on a liveaboard instead of an island resort. Baani Explorer guests have a high return rate, which shows that Hussen has managed to create the kind of atmosphere onboard that turns a holiday into a life-time experience. Hussen´s scuba philosophy: “I would like the guests to be aware that diving is experiencing nature first hand – there is no hotline to call for ordering sharks or mantas or ribbon eels! Nobody can promise a particular sighting to 100% but I will take our guests to the best and most well known dive sites in the Maldives. Every dive site and every atoll has its own mood and unique characteristics and each and every dive is different and varies from one time to the next. There is always something to see - take pleasure in whatever it is, however big or small!”

Husen Husen has been working with Gundi and Nino on many occasions over the last ten years. Husen is an outstanding instructor who knows how to make people feel at home both over and under water. His first dive was in 1983, when he was working as a compressor boy to finance his diving education. He became a certified PADI Instructor in 1994 – by that time he already knew the dive spots of the Maldives as well as the back of his hand. Husen continues to educate himself by seeking further qualifications – at the moment he is a PADI Staff Instructor and he plans to gain further qualifications in the near future. He loves to teach and he manages to make even the driest material fun to learn. Because of his busy diving schedule, he hardly finds time to practice his other aquatic passions: windsurfing, waterskiing and canoeing. Husen enjoys meeting people from all over the world and sharing the beauties of the Maldivian reefs with them. He has also explored diving regions in other parts of the world, such as the Mediterranean, the Baltic Sea, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Sipadan and Thailand. We are very pleased to have found someone as experienced and likeable as Husen to look after our guests on Baani Adventurer. Husen about himself: “I have 15 years of experience behind me in this field and have dived in almost all the atolls of the Maldives. On my tours I like providing both fun (for the fun-loving) and knowledge (for the serious diver). I like to give the most memorable personalised tours for our guests. I am very concerned about the environment and try my best to preserve it.”
